The Virtual Multicasting Approach to Bandwidth Conservation

چکیده
Virtual Multicast (VMC) exploits short-term similarities in Internet traffic to save bandwidth and reduce congestion. Its implementation requires modification of aspects the HTTP specification, which is motivated by the expected benefits of the method: reclamation of bandwidth lost due to redundant network data and latency savings as seen by users.

Performance of Co-operative Relay for Multicast Multi-Hop Networks Using Virtual MIMO
Multicasting is a bandwidth conservation technology that can utilize the resources very efficiently, reduces the traffic volume and improves the network capacity by simultaneously delivering a single stream of information to more than one intended receivers. Wireless medium is inherently multicast in nature and this property can be exploited with virtual MIMO. The improvement in BER can be achi...
متن کاملScheduling Strategy for Realistic Implementation of Video on Demand over IPTV System
The tradeoffs in employing multicasting technology for implementing large scale video on demand (VoD) over Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) system, in general, come to the scheduled multicasting streams and limited video or television program selections. The scheduling strategies presented in this paper will provide several advantages. First, we proposed a near Video on demand architecture c...

Virtual Multicasting (VMC) is a specific instance of a more general idea, Information Mass Transit (IMT). IMT aims to reduce the waste of bandwidth resulting from individual streams of data, while improving user-level latency. By analogy with mass transit where shared transport reduces the load on infrastructure, IMT aims to use networks and other infrastructure more efficiently. VMC combines s...
متن کاملContinuous Multicasting on Statically-Allocated VC-based Switches in High-Bandwidth Networks
| We analytically model continuous multicasting to uniformly-distributed destinations on statically-allocated VC-based switches. Our models compare favorably with simulations. Our results indicate that a higher number of virtual circuits improves switch throughput, especially for unicasting. For multicasting, the improvement only occurs at small packet arrival rates, while at higher rates there...
